Simi Valley City Employees Vote To Go On Strike

Simi Valley’s General Unit has voted to go on strike. Represented by SEIU, General Unit has been without a contract for 84 days. Their chief concern is pay. For many positions within the City of Simi Valley, City employees are paid 20-30% less than their counterparts in neighboring cities, according to sources.

A strike cannot occur until mediation is concluded, unsuccessfully.

Roughly a third of the employees at the City of Simi Valley are considered General Unit.

On Monday night, a rally was staged outside of City Hall.

Although General Unit voted to go on strike, this vote does not necessarily guarantee that a strike will happen; however, the likelihood of one occurring has gone up.

There are still ongoing negotiations between the City of Simi Valley and SEIU.
