The Next Chapter In 3D: KitBash3D And Greyscalegorilla Create A Creator-First Ecosystem

The merger between KitBash3D and Greyscalegorilla has united two creator-focused forces in the 3D industry to streamline R&D, asset integration, and cross-platform tool development. Completed on September 9, 2025, the merger will maintain current user pricing and support while accelerating collaborative development for platforms like Cinema 4D, Unreal Engine, and Blender. With a shared goal to remove workflow barriers, the merger strengthens production pipelines for independent creators and studios. Founders Maxx Burman, Banks Boutté, and Nick Campbell remain in leadership roles alongside Drew Little, as they consolidate creative tools into a single ecosystem.

Portland, Oregon, September 9, 2025 KitBash3D and Greyscalegorilla have announced a strategic merger that unites two leading companies in 3D content creation. The collaboration is designed to streamline workflows by aligning asset pipelines and tool development, which both companies describe as a natural step driven by a shared commitment to empowering creators. Beyond product and platform integration, the merger marks a significant moment for artist-focused consolidation in an increasingly fragmented digital production landscape.

“3D has become a keystone for how we tell stories, design products, and build virtual worlds, yet creators are still limited by the barriers in their workflows,” said Banks Boutté, co-founder and co-CEO of KitBash3D. “KitBash and Greyscale have long shared a vision of removing technical hurdles and empowering creators. This merger lets us accelerate that pursuit with greater resources, broader reach, and a unified commitment to always put artists first.”

Founded in 2017, KitBash3D has served over 250,000 artists and studios globally through its asset kits and Cargo platform, supporting projects for Marvel, Netflix, and 2K Games. Greyscalegorilla, launched in 2009, provides motion design plugins, training resources, and photorealistic materials used across networks like NBC and ESPN, as well as major advertisers including Google and Nike.

Leadership from both companies will remain, establishing continuity during integration. KitBash3D’s Maxx Burman and Banks Boutté will continue as co-CEOs. Nick Campbell, founder of Greyscalegorilla, will become chief innovation officer, overseeing development for key platforms including Cinema 4D, Unreal Engine, and Blender. Drew Little, co-founder of Red Giant, which previously merged with Maxon, joins the board as chairman.

“This is more than a merger; it’s an invitation,” said Campbell. “We’re bringing creators into a larger ecosystem for 3D, where tools and assets work seamlessly together to unlock new possibilities for creators.”

Existing users will see no changes to pricing or support services. As integration progresses, the merged company will prioritize platform interoperability, workflow efficiency, and scalable tools designed for both freelancers and production teams.

Sebastien Deguy, founder of Substance and former Adobe 3D executive, commented, “As 3D assets and tools become foundational across industries, the companies behind them have remained fragmented, which has slowed the pace of innovation. KitBash3D and Greyscalegorilla are two of the most respected teams in the space, and I’m excited to see how their combined strengths will help shape the next chapter for 3D creators.”
